Le Soufflé 36 Rue du Mont Thabor, 75001 Paris * http://www.lesouffle.fr
For my friend's week long birthday celebration not only did we go to Disney, we also tried out a new restaurant that she found on Instagram. I have been in France for almost a year and never had a soufflé. *Gasp* I know, what kind of fake Frenchie am I.
Le Souffle is a very cute restaurant right off Rue de Rivoli with a pale blue facade that will attract anyones' attention. Luckily my friend made reservations for noon. We had a good view of all the tourist that tried to get seated sans reservation and got turned away because it got full fairly quickly.
They have prix fixed menus and the lunch one is perfectly priced. For just €29 you start with a small green salad and a warm bun with butter, then either a savory soufflé or le plat du jour, and a dessert soufflé. This included a choice of wine or mineral water. They take the order for the full meal right away, so we kept asking for extra time because everything just seemed so delicious and we couldn't choose!
I ended up choosing a tomato and basil soufflé. It came out golden, overflowed and hot, literally picture perfect. It came with tomato sauce in a sauce boat. The waiter made a hole right through the middle and poured some of the tomato sauce through it. It was delicious but not my cup of tea. It was just too fluffy for me and by the end I just had the sensation I was eating soggy bread. My two friends ordered different kinds of soufflé (the salmon and spinach soufflé & the pikefish soufflé with crayfish sauce) and ate it all up with no regrets.
The lemon soufflé I ordered was a different story. I did gobble that up too fast. I could have ordered another one and next time just skipped the main course.
This is something I would definitely would like to do again. The wait staff were friendly and patient with us; They didn't try to kick us out when we sat there for an hour just talking. The meals were perfect sizes and the price was great for everything we got.
The only complaint I have is that they didn't give me enough rosé. But I do drink wine like water so maybe that one is on me.
